Why I Love Wallingford

I was actually born in Wallingford (not in Meriden Hospital, now known as Midstate Medical Center). As it does for all of us, life soon picked up speed, what with grade school, high school, Football, Baseball, Student Council, Class Officer, graduation (Lyman hall, Class of 1953), a year at Cheshire Academy and then into the US Army "to be all that I could be."

After an honorable discharge, I married Florence Dederick Parisi and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Business Administration at Leicester Junior College in Leicester MA. Now I was ready to tackle the world! The world was not a giving place at the time, but no matter. The vigor of youth prevailed as I worked up to three jobs at one time, still managing to enjoy almost all of it. I was healthy, happy and young - all the tools needed to start out.

One day my neighbor and lifelong dear friend Joe Pimentel encouraged me to join the Junior Chamber of Commerce (known also as the Jaycees) and my civic career was launched. The Jaycees gave me start in the best and most fulfilling part of my life - my fifty years of civic, fraternal and political involvement.

My Dad was active in the "behind the scenes" of Wallingford Republican politics and was a key member of the team that succeeded in putting Wallingford's first mayor, William D. Bertini, into office. This achievement, plus the encouragement and friendship provided by my Dad, my wife Joan Ives-Parisi, Dolly Parisi, Rick Eaton, Congressman Larry DeNardis, Senator Len Fasano, Ralph Acabbo, Joe "Jupe" Dsupin, Al DeFigueiredo, Bob Sprafke, Bernard Pellegrino, my Dad and my sister Fran have created in me a deep love for and desire to serve the people of my hometown Wallingford.

The values of friendship and family, sense of commitment to friends of the past and present and also those friends I have yet to meet, and a dedication to live by the teachings of Christ are the real rewards of public service. I truly feel that I have been blessed to have lived in Wallingford and plan to give back until a Higher Authority causes me to cease my activities.

Let me close by saying to the people of Wallingford: "Thank you for allowing me to share my deep and loyal love for you and for our wonderful town." And all of you who know me also know that I truly believe that we do indeed live in the best town in America.
